This vision is in the Exploration & Feasibility stage of Materialization & needs a lot of development, feedback, reflection, refinement!
To operate in the physical and legal world, organizations require a complementary legal entity, a foundation, to act as the real-world agent, employing staff, signing contracts, leasing space, purchasing equipment, selling products, and providing services. The foundation is the bedrock upon which the organization can grow, and the people within it, and served by it can thrive. Erefugia's foundation is a cooperative, an organization owned by and operated for the benefit of members and member-workers.
Erefugia provides a suite of services designed to support resilient communities, foster creative expression, and empower organizations to thrive within federated networks. Our approach is holistic we combine human care, technical infrastructure, artistic development, and organizational guidance to help our members and partner communities survive, grow sustainably, and thrive.
Erefugia helps communities build local and digital infrastructures that promote human and ecological well-being. Member cooperatives can collaborate around areas like housing, food systems, community gardens, libraries, learning hubs, water stewardship, and health or emergency services. These programs are designed to be modular and adaptable, so each Refugium can develop the mix of supports that best fits its members and environment.
While Human Services Delivery, including care coordination, mutual aid, and community support, form the moral and social foundation of Erefugia’s mission, these activities typically require substantial investment and generate limited or no direct revenue. In contrast, our Artistic, Technical, and Organizational Services are designed to be mutually profitable, leveraging creative production, cooperative technology development, and governance consulting to generate revenue. This balance allows Erefugia to cross-subsidize essential human services through its productive and entrepreneurial branches, ensuring that care work remains dignified and adequately supported. In this way, our economic model embodies cooperative solidarity, where creative and technical endeavors sustain the social and human infrastructure that makes community possible.
Planned for 2026
Planned for 2027
We recognize that access to basic needs is foundational to individual and community well-being. Our Human Services are structured to ensure survival, dignity, and autonomy:
From temporary shelters to long-term housing projects, we help organize spaces where people can live safely and securely.
We assist with water access, purification, and distribution, ensuring that communities can rely on this essential resource.
We coordinate food kitchens, community gardens, and mutual aid networks to provide nutritious meals and build local food resilience.
We coordinate energy purchasing, support local renewables, and improve efficiency through weatherization and planning, strengthening resilience, reducing dependence, and stabilizing costs.
We support access to professional healthcare services, clinics, and mobile medical outreach.
We help ensure that necessary medical supplies, equipment, and first aid materials are available and distributed equitably.
Facilitating connectivity through phone, internet, and messaging networks, we ensure communities can stay informed, connected, and empowered.
We organize mobility solutions, including shared vehicles, transport logistics, and community transit initiatives, to enable access to essential services.
Art and creative expression are central to resilient culture. Our Artistic Services help creators transform vision into impact:
Our members provide one another with resources, workshops, guidance, and direct services to help artists bring projects to life.
In addition to offering resale through our Social Network, we work to connect artists to marketplaces, other cooperatives, and distribution channels that ensure fair and sustainable sales.
From branding, to advertising and social media, we support artists in sharing their work widely while retaining creative control and ethical practices.
We help match artists with clients or organizations seeking commissioned works, fostering meaningful collaborations.
Our technical services support the backbone of federated, cooperative, and resilient networks. We prioritize stability, security, simplicity, and sovereignty over the extractive, high-risk practices of contemporary IT:
We help communities deploy, maintain, and govern their technical infrastructure, emphasizing privacy, resilience, and modular scalability.
We develop and distribute tools, platforms, and software solutions — including social networking platforms built on AT Protocol — that empower communities to self-organize.
From planning to deployment, we assist projects with architecture, implementation, integration, migration, and technical consultation tailored to their unique goals.
We provide ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and operational support, allowing organizations to focus on mission and community rather than infrastructure headaches.
Erefugia provides direct support and consulting for communities seeking to form or strengthen cooperative and decentralized governance structures. We help groups establish legal cooperatives, associations, or foundations with democratic bylaws, equitable ownership, and clear fiduciary structures. In addition to assisting with incorporation and organizational design, we support the creation and operation of DAOs that use transparent decision-making processes, participatory budgeting, and community-driven protocols. The Cooperative also assists communities that wish to build or join AT Protocol social networks, offering guidance for establishing federation agreements and shared moderation frameworks that ensure autonomy, safety, and interoperability.
We guide communities through formation, governance, membership, and operational practices, helping them build enduring, democratic economic structures.
Through our educational services, we offer workshops, peer training, and resource development focused on cooperative management, digital literacy, civic engagement, and sustainable practices.
We assist in creating and managing Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, enabling collective decision-making and transparent policy enforcement through blockchain and federated platforms.
We help design, launch, and federate community-owned social networks, ensuring user control, data privacy, and alignment with cooperative values.
Erefugia helps member organizations navigate legal requirements, including cooperative and DAO governance, contracts, and compliance, while aligning with mission-driven goals.
We provide guidance on accounting, budgeting, and resource management, supporting transparent and sustainable operations for cooperatives and DAOs.
Erefugia assists with communications, media outreach, and community engagement to help members share their work authentically and effectively.
We support organizations in identifying and mitigating operational, financial, and legal risks, helping ensure safe, reliable, and accountable operations.
